‘Walking with aroha’, features a brown kiwi taking a stroll through beautiful New Zealand native bush. This kiwi is sporting a fancy Mānuka flower crown and is joined by a few special native friends. Kiwi birds are a significant national icon of Aotearoa, equally cherished by all cultures. They represent the wonderful uniqueness of our native wildlife and the value of our natural heritage. Special native friends included are: Hura/giant centipede, Pupurangi/kauri snail, Kahukura/red admiral butterfly, Pepe Para Riki/common copper butterfly, Rauparaha’s copper butterfly, glade copper butterfly, pepe ao uri/common blue butterfly, janita’s tussock butterfly, Mumutawa/Ladybird. Native foliage included are: Kauri leaves, kauri male cone, disintegrated kauri female cone, kauri seeds, Tānekaha leaves, spiky Rimu leaves, Tōtara leaves, Ponga/Silver fern, Mānuka/tea tree flowers and leaves.

Art work by Northland based artist, Katy Hayward. This drawing was inspired by her aroha / love for going on beautiful bushwalks with her little family, and a special nod to her daughter’s obsession for fancy head pieces at this time in her life.
