‘So this is love’ features a male and female miromiro | tomtit pair, lovingly glancing at one another as they perch themselves amongst some flowering native puawānanga/clematis paniculata. They are also joined by a friendly pīrorohu/bumblebee. Miromiro/tomtits are charming little songbirds native to Aotearoa/New Zealand, known for their striking plumage and sweet, high-pitched calls. These birds often live in monogamous pairs, forming strong bonds that can last through multiple breeding seasons. During nesting, the male tomtit takes great care of his mate while the female stays on the nest to keep the eggs warm, the male brings her food like insects to help her stay strong. He stays nearby, often singing and watching for danger. After the chicks hatch, he helps feed them, working together with the female to raise their young. It's a beautiful example of teamwork in nature!
