Kowhaiwhai Wall Panel 1

Rimu panel with bamboo kowhaiwhai cutout over coloured board. A stand is built into the back, but can lie flat when hung on a wall.

The rimu is able to be engraved, turning this gift into something even more special, be it a 21st gift, a wedding gift or a farewell present.

The term, 'kowhaiwhai' is used to describe an artform typicallyu used by Maori to adorn the rafters (heke) of their meeting houses (wharenui). The patterns caried tribally and thus regionally throughout Aotearoa. the red, black and white represented blood and life (red), purity and hope (white), and earth (black).
