Hand carved 21st Patu.
This beautiful hand carved 21st Patu is a nice, unique twist on the traditional 21st key. Hand carved here in New Zealand using traditional methods and inlaid with South Island paua. The back of this piece is plain, creating a perfect blank space for optional engraving.
As a general rule the rangatira (chief) carried the patu, or short club. The patu was carried thrust into the girdle of the puipui or in a special war belt. The common characteristic of the patu is a flat, broad blade with a rounded end made sharp enough to split the skill of a man or cause deadly injury to the neck or ribs.
As this is a hand carved item in natural wood, there might be some slight differences in colour and carving.
Measures 41 x 13 cm.
